活動レポート

I was my honor and pleasure to participate ISSCR 2012. Although I have participated last year in Toronto, this year's event is really much more exciting! I was able to attend the newest oral and poster presentation from Dr. Gurdon's Lab. Their presentations were quite interesting using eggs and oocytes to reprogram somatic cells nuclei. Moreover, the research works of Dr. Baraka and Dr. Anguera were also very fascinating. Dr. Baraka focus his work at the activation of RNF12 for the X chromosome inactivation in female mouse embryonic stem cells, while Dr. Anguera was working at different phenotype of female human embryonic stem cells. Not to mention, later Dr. Anguera also came to my poster section, where we had a great discussion as the successful establishment of marmoset embryonic stem cell are from female by far. Dr. Anguera has given me some advice and vision, which might have given me some new ideas for my research project, and she also invite me for visiting her in the future.

During my poster presentation, I have managed to make very useful discussion with researchers all over the world. I have to switch my presentation into English, Chinese and Japanese up on required, which I think it has made my presentation a little more challenging. I have also received some advice on how to improve my data, and exchange ideas with different researchers who are also working in the same field. In the meantime, I have also managed to establish the collaborations with Dr. Muller from Germany and Dr. Hassiotou from Australia. Furthermore, I have also met Dr. Wiblin who was in the development of antibody of Abcam. She was very interested with my research using their products. So she even proposed a collaboration, which she will ask me for screening their antibodies and in return, I can use the antibody for free. I was very excited, as she is willing to develop some new antibodies from my investigated germ cell marker gene list. Not to mention the money I could save from the free antibody provided by Abcam.

I have to say I really enjoy ISSCR this year, not only I have learn the most cutting-edge researches, but also manage to expand my connection through science world. In addition, I also have the chance to negotiate with several companies for which could improve my research project without causing any financial burden to us. For a young research as myself, this is really a good event to go and the benefit is just priceless. Not to mention the improvement in ourselves as well. After ISSCR, Dr. Muller and his team from Germany has visited Keio University, and the collaboration is set between our groups, which I really strong believed this will help us advance our researches simultaneously.

At last, I am truly grateful that "Global-COE" program has provided me such a wonderful chance to participate this amazing experience. I really count myself as a lucky one and I really appreciate for all the helps from "Global-COE program". This is a lifetime experience that I will not forget.
