As of June 27, 2019, the Keio University School of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine have signed a research partnership agreement with The J. David Gladstone Institutes (Gladstone Institutes) of San Francisco, California, USA.
The Gladstne Institutes, founded in 1979, is a world-class medical institute affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Prof. Shinya Yamanaka, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine 2012, holds a laboratory there, where he conducts pioneering basic research on iPS cells.
Keio expects to strengthen research in the following areas by building a cooperative relationship with Gladstone Institutes: 1) neurology and dementia; 2) cardiovascular disease; 3) epigenomics using techniques such as single cell analysis; 4) immunology and inflammation; and 5) stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. We also hope that this partnership will encourage the exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as early-career researchers between Gladstone and Keio.
