On November 1, 2018, Shinanomachi Campus welcomed a three-person delegation from Austria’s Medical University of Innsbruck that included president Prof. Wolfgang Fleischhacker.
The visit began with a signing ceremony to celebrate the conclusion of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding on education and research exchange.
A discussion on the future of the cooperative relationship between the two schools followed. Prof. Fleischhacker is the managing director of Innsbruck’s Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, which is a global leader in clinical research and clinical trial data analysis. Since 2008, the department has conducted joint research with the Keio University School of Medicine’s Department of Neuropsychiatry, resulting in co-authored papers between several researchers from the two schools. Prof. Fleischhacker was also generous with advice regarding the reanalysis of large-scale clinical trial data sets that Keio University conducts.
Prof. Fleischhacker then gave a special lecture on career development as a doctor and researcher, sharing some of his own experiences and talking with researchers during a fruitful Q&A session.
In addition to reaffirming continued research cooperation between Innsbruck’s Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and Keio’s Department of Neuropsychiatry, this visit represents a strong start to the enterprising research and student exchange that this new agreement will bring to the whole School of Medicine.
