The first iPhone-aided clinical research in Japan has begun at Keio University, lead by cardiology professor Keiichi Fukuda and associate professor Seiji Takatsuki.
Keio project professor Takehiro Kimura used Apple’s ResearchKit framework to develop the app Heart & Brain, which can help in maintaining quality of life through the early detection of cerebral infarction and arrhythmia by analyzing the health and fitness data gathered through the built-in motion sensors in both the iPhone and the Apple Watch.
By harnessing the vast amounts of data created by iPhone users in clinical research settings, Keio hopes to establish big-data systems that will lead to a healthier society.
